This book, winner of the prestigious J. Anthony Lukas Work-In-Progress Award, takes apart the myths that surround domestic violence, many of which Snyder herself once believed: Restraining orders. Violence in the Middle Ages, however, functioned differently, according to David Nirenberg. After reading two books that explained violence in an almost-fatalistic way, I was really looking forward to reading this book, to uplift my spirits and give me hope. The book then proceeded to detail humanity's long history of genocide, infanticide, cannibalism, terrorism, oppression, murder, torture, warfare, slavery, rape, and so on. I’ve met the men who work with Rory, and they are tough, hard, guys—and they adore him. They know that what he knows, and who he is, has kept them alive to.
violence, whatever its motives or purposes, that occurs in the advancement of an individual or collective criminal agenda and seeking to sow panic among people, causing fear by harming them, or placing their lives, liberty or security in danger, or seeking to cause dam -. Maybe its because books take longer than websites and movies, but regardless, I found myself exhausted after each sitting, and extremely relieved when I finally reached the end of the book. I don't recommend this book to anybody, and I think that's the point of the book.
